Music Typesetting - Rates

The following prices are a guideline to what we charge. If you provide us, in advance, with a scanned file of the score(s) you wish to be typeset we can provide you with a more accurate estimate as to how much the typesetting work will cost (which will, more than likely, work out cheaper than the per-page price).

Full Orchestral Score Scoring like this would be £10 per page Score 1 : Score 2. Scoring like this would be £15 per page Score 3	£10 - £15 per page
Chamber ensemble e.g. trio, quartet, quintet, etc	£10 per page
Solo instrument and piano Also piano duets	£10 per page
Solo keyboard or solo instrument without accompaniment piano, organ, harpsichord, harp or any solo instrument	£10 per page
Choral score with keyboard accompaniment e.g. Oratorio, cantata, hymn etc. (For producing a vocal score from a full score see Exceptions below.)	£10 per page
Voice and Piano Lieder, song, chanson in any language	£5 - £10 per page
Voice and Orchestra Same as a full orchestral score. The complexity of the orchestral part would determine the page rate	£10 - £15 per page
Extracted parts See here	£5 - £10 per part

Transposition

Transposing a song into a different key where the song has already been typeset and David Stowell Typesetting has access to that typset file (in Sibelius format)	£5 per song
Transposing a song into a different key where the source typeset file is not provided	£10 per page

Exceptions
The following are not subject to a per page/song cost, but are charged at a rate of £20 per hour.

Pieces of a highly complex notation (e.g. a very heavily notated orchestral score, or an avant-garde score where there is a large graphical component)

Producing a vocal score from a full score

Music examples for books

Any subsequent changes to a score already typeset by us (e.g. where you decide to rewrite a passage)

Payment
Payment is due at the completion of the project, however for large projects a deposit may be required.

Finished product The finished score(s) will be produced in the following formats:-

PDF file (included in price)

Sibelius source file (included in price)

Graphic format - TIFF, EPS, PNG, BMP (optional : included in price)

MIDI file (optional : included in price)

Printing
If you require the score(s) to be printed and bound then this will be charged separately, and will depend upon the nature of the project and how you wish the score to be printed. (Whilst we are happy to provide this service, in reality you will probably be able to get your score printed at a cheaper rate by using your local print shop.)

Basic corrections are included within the price. If you make changes to the original score these will be charged at the hourly rate.

We will check the manuscript/score that you send to us for typesetting, and may well email you, before we start work, to clarify any questions we have about how your manuscript is notated

For vocal music, you should provide us with a file (or Word document) of the text to be used. This is essential if the text is in a pictorial language (e.g. like Chinese)

If you are providing David Stowell Typesetting with copyrighted scores to typeset or transpose, and you are not the copyright holder, then you must provide evidence that you have the original copyright holder's permission to have the score typeset or transposed

You retain full copyright on any of your own compositions that you provide to David Stowell Typesetting
